18.Miasma
by Matthias Mader (28.12.2006) Learned something new again: the second part of the "Metal = Life"-series features a total of 38 songs plus 18 video clips for a fair bargain. Which, in fact should be argument enough to have an overview on the current "Metal scene". Yet, the quotation marks already give a hint on one problem: stylistically, this compilation reaches from Dissection and Ghoatwhore via In Flames to The Black Dahlia Murder and Converge. Yet, if you can do without pigeonhole-thinking you get a bright bouquet of melodies from Death- and Black Metal and, of course, mainly Metalcore plus a bit of Noise/Emo. A nice chance to get to know some new bands. 5% of the recommended retail price is donated to the Hot Topic Foundation, an organisation helping to promote juvenile in creative writing, music, making films and fotography. A commendable project.
