New label, new line-up, new luck: Three years after "God Says No" Dave Wyndorf returns with a completely renewed version of Monster Magnet. The rhythm section around John and Joe was replaced by Jim Baglino (Bass) and Bob Pantell (drums) adding a new tightness and intensity to the psychedelic Space- and Garage Rock. Just like the fact that Wyndorf himself produced the album the fat, analogue way. Consequently, "Monolithic Baby!" is one of the best albums in the 15 years of MM history. While the guys from New Jersey still appeared very over-ambitious on their latter albums this release bursts with power and energy - with 12 songs as hypnotic, powerful and mind-altering as the legendary "Dopes To Infinity". Just cleverly arranged songs full of bizarre effects, mystic rumbling and heavy riffs. And of course, with weird, crazy comic lyrics about nymphomane ladies, fat Harleys, diabolic creatures and more colourful drugs than any single person could ever take. The overkill: an album that roars, vibrates and reverberates. (Marcel Anders - 04/01)
