by Sonja Angerer (null) The Bavarians take the place by storm, with Schalmeien, pipes and hurdy-gurdy they declare the war on their guitar. The rocky Medieval Folk six-piecer has devoted to catchy melodies inspired by historical originals and edgy German lyrics. Close listening is worth it when singer Thomas Lindner sings about the "Walpurgisnacht" and swears upon pictures of wild dances around the fires - your feet won't stand still. By the instrumentation there are some similarities to Subway to Sally or In Extremo, but the (Hard) Rock elements here are much more obvious. "Narrenk÷nig" almost seems a bit awkward-anarchistic - as already the title supposes. And just like Fiddler's Green. But also the quiet tunes are not missing, like the acoustic "Waldgeflüster" with its meditative middle part with sweet flutes, or "Sonnenstrahl", a piece of poetry in best songwriter-quality: a versatile, great album not only for fans of Medieval music.
