by Matthias Mineur (null) They was a time, when not even the national media knew in what category to put this Wolfsburger band Oomph. The wrong record label, wrong image (Industrial? Metal? Alternative?) and Rammstein didn't exist yet, neither. Meanwhile, everything has changed. In approximately every third interview, Rammstein admit that Oomph used to be sort of their sound's godfather, when they intensely worked on that - now prooven to be worthwhile - sound. Then, Virgin made a lucrative offer to them and by now, even Oomph finally found their own sound. On "Plastik", this sound appears to be less harsh and technoid than on previous albums. Unfortunately, the metallic effect got turned down at the same time and Pop got more attention. That might be helpful regarding the radio-compatibilty, but some of the pressure and the intensity are lost. The increase of melodies does not exactly replace this loss. Is there anybody desperately trying to reach all the VIVA-clients?
