12.131Naer Mataron
by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (10.04.2008) It can only be personal antipathy that Naer Mataron are missing on the otherwise very complete "Hellas – The Black/Death Anthology 1989-2006" double album. They are one of the survivors of the first generation (Varathron, Kawir, Rotting Christ, Zemial) of early Greek Black Metal. Euronymous (Mayhem) admires the southern scene, and Naer Mataron are well respected in Scandinavia: Vicotnik (Dodheimsgard/Ved Buens Ende) again produced and sang on the album, the Swedish electronic specialist, Nordvargr contributed the intro "Anti celestial campaign", the intermezzo "Astral anthology", and the final tunes of the closing title track. Nevertheless, "Praetorians" is not originally avant-garde. The special, antique-Greek sound feature, the bumpy drums, were combined with completely un-Greek, Nordish guitar sounds on this fifth album making the whole sound lower than on "Dicipline manifesto".
