by Oliver Kube (04.03.2008) Fans of "A fever you can't sweat out" (2005), the debut of the Americans can look forward to a great surprise when putting in the sophomore effort of Panic At The Disco. The youngsters with an average age of only 22 years have gone through an unbelievable progression since the debutβs release. Where the debut was Punk-orientated, electronic and with ease, "Pretty. odd." convinces with opulent, splendid arrangements. While the inspiration of the first song collection was the sounds of the late 70s and 80s, the quartet seems to have fallen completely in love with the 60s now. Songs, like "Do you know what I'm seeing" and "Behind the sea" with their fast beats and the smooth, bittersweet strings and dreamy picked, psychedelic guitars could have come from Ray Davies' The Kinks, too, while the brilliant, first single, "Nine in the afternoon" clearly reminds me of the Beatles' work of genius, "Sgt. pepper' lonely hearts club band". Great!
