"Primitive and deadly" LP by Earth

"Primitive and Deadly" by 'Earth' is released as double LP in a Gatefold sleeve and includes the bonus track "Badger's Bane" (black vinyl exclusively in Europe)! The first 'Earth' album with vocals since Kurt Cobain sang on their debut EP! Mark Lanegan (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, SCREAMING TREES) sings two of the album's songs and Rose Windows' singer Rabia Shaheen Qazi refines "From The Zodiacal Light" with her voice.
Brett Netson from BUILT TO SPILL is also one of the party as second guitarist. Earth's career is like their music: a slow, considered progress.
Each album removes itself step by step from its predecessor and therefore becomes the realisation of a unique vision.
Dylan Carlson manages again and again to filter out moments of strange beauty and reflection from "the riff". On early 'Earth' recordings, this fundamental of rock is realised through raw volume or minimalistic utilisation of folk. In "Primitive and Deadly", 'Earth's tenth studio recording, Carlson and his long time colleague and drummer Adrienne Davies succeeds in closing the circle after 25 years and giving their music a new touch at the same time. For the first time in their career, they have allowed themselves to be a rock band without much fuss. The dialogue between Carlson's guitar and Davie's drums is in the centre of attention and is emphasised by Bill Herzog's (SUNN O))), JOEL RL PHELPS, JESSE SYKES AND THE SWEET HEREAFTER) calm bass and enriched with additional guitar parts by Brett Netson (BUILT TO SPILL, CAUSTIC RESIN) and Jodie Cox (NARROWS).
The biggest improvements on "Primitive and Deadly", however, are the guest singers Mark Lanegan and Rabia Shaheen Qazi from Rose Windows. They provide the traditionally extensive meditations of 'Earth' with a little pop structure. "Primitive and Deadly" is consistent, compact and fast, melodic and moving. An album that manifests the band's unique position in the history of rock.
