It’s no secret that the most outstanding black metal bands have always hailed from Norway, ever since the early nineties. While in the past years German bands like Dark Fortress and Endstille have enjoyed a certain degree of success and international attention, it’s SONIC REIGN who will put Germany on the black metal map once and for ever! Like other legendary artists in this genre (Satyricon and Darkthrone come to mind), SONIC REIGN work exclusively as a duo and celebrate a hate-drenched ceremony that will delight fans of the aforementioned bands. Fast, ferocious and vehement, yet still grooving, the band slash their way through your ears, not sounding contrived in the very least. This is not a cheap copy or a tame, lame, plastic black metal band – forget keyboards and clean vocals! Their typically Norwegian sound makes them the blackest star on the black metal firmament. The title of their debut album, "Raw Dark Pure", is more of a command than a declaration of principles, and it will surely secure them their rightful place among the scene’s top bands. If you’re into real, straight-forward black metal, there’s no escaping SONIC REIGN in 2007 – FUCKED UP BUT GLORIOUS!(Source: Metal Blade Records)

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (10.01.2007) The trinity of the album title defines the Black Metal-direction of the German duo, but it is left to the fantasy of the viewer to add further descriptions - such as cold and modern, for example - for the cover artwork. The inspiration according to Ben and Sebastian too, are really Norwegian. While Satyricon at the times of their "Rebel extrvaganza" is a name that can often be read in reviews it is especially the sound esthetics and composing avant-garde artists, Thorn that have obviously left their marks on the band, as well as also Emperor, to whom "Reminiscence of imperial wrath" is indirectly devoted to. Little references to the bass-free old school Nekro-blasts, only e.g. in "Tyrant blessed". With their new interpretation of the Black muse, Sonic Reign is in best surrounding: especially Dark Fortress and their direct immediates (Sin Decade) are known for such experiments, yet their results are of weirder nature. Still, Sonic Reign is the biggest newcomer hope in the re-strengthening German Black Metal.
