That what many fans of traditional Swedish Death Metal have waited for: the first complete album of this - no exaggeration - allstar-project. For two years, the mini-album, "Breeding Death" has caused a stir now. And Mikael Äkerfeldt (Opeth) maltreats his vocal chords to the extreme again. Not so Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström (the creative head in Katatonia), who stormingly presents some fat guitar riffs that will delight all fans of Entombed or Dismember. Still, the string artist sets his own accents by the numerous leads performed in his very own, melancholic way. Despite the clear links to traditional Death Metal with tracks, like "Resurrection Through Carnage", the quartet should manage to get quite a number of Black Metal fans into the boat, too, fans who always miss the melodies in Death Metal. The guitarists are added by Blakkheim¦s band colleague, Jonas Renkse on Bass. Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity et al) took over the drums even if rumours said it differently in between. A classic Death Metal album that could become a late classic of the genre. (Stefan Müller - 10/02)
