"Retracing Our Steps" includes the albums What We Have Sown (2007), Tightly Unwound (2008), Someone Here Is Missing (2010), All The Wars (2012), and Magnolia (2014). The collection features rarities, acoustic reinterpretations, as well as new stereo and immersive mixes. This 8-disc set charts the development of the band during a crucial period in their history and is the second part of The Pineapple Thief's Earbook series, following the acclaimed How Did We Find Our Way: 1999–2006, released in 2023.

Each recording has been newly mixed and remastered by Bruce Soord in 2025. Disc 8, the Blu-ray, enhances this new vision with Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround, and hi-res stereo mixes, breathing new life into the classic tracks.

It features personal memories as well as correspondence between Bruce Soord and his long-time friend and fan Peter Clemens. Through new reflections, interviews, and photographs, Bruce looks back on long nights and small successes, friendships and near misses, as well as the countless "massive wake-up calls" that have shaped the music.
