The band had only been in existence for seven months when they recorded 'Rusted angel' at Dug Out Productions with producer Daniel Bergstrand. Initially, DARKANE wanted to play a blend of Gothenburg metal and Florida death metal, but during the recording process, they began experimenting with growls and melodic vocals - something that was new in this genre and would become very popular in the near future. German magazine Rock Hard awarded it first place in the soundcheck section, while Dutch magazine Aardschok awarded it second place.
