by Markus Wosgien (01.10.2007) The German/Greek quintet, Mystic Prophecy, has always been a guarantee for first-class, pure Heavy Metal. With their last album, "Savage souls", they put the benchmark extremely high but still they manage to improve and to create an absolute masterpiece. "Satanic curses" is great in all terms. In a unique way, the guys combine filigree melodies with an unbelievable power and heaviness, rounded off by the fantastic voice of R. D. Liapakis, who once again delivers the performance of his life. So, the album offers true Metal-hymns, like the melodic "Sacrifice me", the Speed Metal-killer, "Dark forces", the powerful, mystic title song, "Satanic curses" and the ultra fast "Evil of destruction". With "Paranoid", they even dare to cover the Black Sabbath-classic, and again they succeed. The lyrics are gloomy and demonic in best Heavy Metal tradition. "Satanic curses" is a hitter on a level that comparable combos, like Iced Earth and Morgana LeFay are far from being able to reach anymore.
