by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (11.04.2007) Over the French label, Listenable, Incantation released their new piece of power, now the brothers from New York come after. And they come double, too: immediately after the mini-album, "Hope and horror" with three exclusive songs and a live recording now follows "Shadows in the light", the seventh attack on the foundation of the Death Metal world. The album once more confirms the claims to leadership in technically perfect, murderer-brutal U.S. Death Metal in which beside Morbid Angel and Suffocation they fill a niche of their own. The show on the Arnhem Metalfest, last December could only further enhance the anticipation. The new material comes close to the 2000-album, "Close to a world below": the drum sound is fantastically voluminous - hence the militant potential - and the compositions are less abstract. And since Immolation not only blast, their songs unfold a threatening, majestic effect ("The weight of devotion"). "Shadows in the light" is catchier than its two predecessors - but not less demanding.
