Excellent Service

On "Smell sweet smell" the new school-background of the band is still very dominant with its breaks, the mosh and primarily the full of hate screaming singer.

by Oliver Kube (30.10.2009) "Smell sweet smell" comprises the first two, hard-to-get albums by these German Melodic Death / Metalcore heroes. "23" made its debut in 2001, and "Vitriol" came out 2002 - both were released by the underground label Let It Burn. At that time, Matthias von Ockl was the front man, and the five were already very promising, but still far from the sound of their breakthrough albums "The great collapse" and "Hell sweet hell", and even a longer way from their two success albums "Vulcanus" (2007) and "Isolation" (2008), both released by Century Media. Apart from occasional NWOBHM-eruptions ("Fear my thoughts") and some hints of Post Rock/Prog, the blokes were a headstrong and versatile, yet unmistakeable Hardcore outfit. Stylistic parallels to, say, Converge or Eighteen Vision are obvious, as is the influence of brilliant Cave-In. If you don't know their early material, you're in for a nice and interesting trip down memory lane here.
