by Andreas Reissnauer (April 2004) Nine years after "Pierced from within" and six years after the last mini cd, "Despise the sun", Suffocation celebrate their surprising comeback. Musically, not much has changed with the New Yorkers -despite two line up changes. "Souls to deny" is pure death metal, variable, technically sophisticated and brutal to the limit. The musicians of Suffocation are masters of their genre, literally construct their songs, incorporate many breaks and really form their compositions in a variable way. Which doesn't harm their intensity nor power. Tempo variations create a huge dynamics that won't leave the stiffest unaffected. However, the complex material asks for some listening sessions. Once you got into it, you will be honoured by a very good death metal album! (Andreas Reissnauer - April 2004)
