Thinker forehead, genius hairs and the look of a madman: that's Devin Townsend, one of the brightest talents in the current metal scene. His guest appearance with Steve Vai, when the yet unknown blank-headed provided the gigs with a visual thunder by his excessive stage show should be well remembered by the fans. The moist astonishing fact however: beside his role as Vai-singer, the little devil also took the chance, got his guitar and duelled with the big guitar-wizard. Absolutely crazy! Strapping Young Lad is the band of the active musician who since 1995 regularly has released albums presenting him as an extroverted, great artist. Like now again on "SYL", recorded by Townsend in Vancouver, Canada with the help of Gene Hogland (ex-Testament, Dark Angels) on drums. Added was the line-up by guitarist, Jed Simon and bassist, Byron Stroud, subordinating to the weird handicaps by their thinker. And that's good because that way, "SYL" has an unmistaking handwriting.
