Excellent Service

After having changed the label from EMI to G.U.N., Paradise Lost were positioned with ‚Symbol of Life´ somewhere between the pop-gothic genre of the late 90ies and a soft return to metal virtues. ‚Isolate‘ and ‚Erased‘ were the singles accompanying the album.

    Channel for the Pain

by Matthias Mineur (10/02) Very nearly, Paradise Lost had lost all the reward they deserved in all the years. With great rock albums, like "Draconian Times", "Icon" or "One Second" somewhere in the golden middle between Gothic, Heavy Rock and Metal, singer Nick Holmes and guitarist Gregor Mackintosh had come to a massive fan base. That came the change to EMI and the unbelievable "Host" album, suddenly and unexpectedly pointing towards Depeche Mode soundwise. Consequently, the interest of the fans got lost so that Paradise Lost still suffer the results. Also "Symbol Of Life" is a document of a trial to gain back old terrain. More rigorous than before and provided with beautiful, melancholic lyrics, "Symbol Of Life" convinces with the right amount of heaviness, a return to more edgy arrangements and a fabulous production. And there is no better way to cry than for songs, like "Channel For The Pain" or "Isolate"...
