by Lisa Hofer (29.01.2009) Master mind Morten Veland changed the line-up of his crew - which has paid off, as can be heard on this new release of the Norwegians. Danish songstress Monika Pedersen was replaced by exotic Spanish Pilar Giménez García, called Ailyn, in April 2008 - a wise decision. The voice of the southern beauty fits perfectly into the concept of Sirenia - it looks like the new constellation with Michael S. Krumins on guitar has improved the atmosphere quite a lot, leaving Morten totally inspired with the songwriting process. With "The 13th floor", Sirenia manage to advance into the premier league of female fronted Metal bands, armed with terrific song material. Songs like the wonderful "The lucid door", "The mind maelstorm", or the hit single "The path of decay" add to the melancholy, fantastic choir parts, and dark atmosphere of this album, and make for an overwhelming epic masterpiece. This is not only for Nightwish fans - soon, many others will call Sirenia their favourite band!
