by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (03.11.2008) Since "Volcano", Satyricon donβt define themselves anew with each record. Instead of dramatic melodious stuff, a dry Rock approach prevails. The choir parts on "Die by my hand", which at first is very aggressive and fast, remind you of Galley slaves or an Egyptian funeral, especially the chorus. The three songs before that one are all considerably shorter, their instrumentation is more reduced, and straighter regarding rhythm. "The wolfpack" seems to be a live hit, but in contrast to the great (and limited) single "My skin is cold", itβs less catchy and intense. "The sign of the trient" seems to be a dry variation of Slayerβs "South of heaven", "Last man standing" sounds like dark Psycho Doom. With a tenacious lockstep rhythm and a very decent orchestra working in the background, "Den siste" is the end of it. Hail to Nero - antichrist and culture lover.
