After the almost Punk-oriented and among the fans very critically discussed predecessor "Catch 22" Tägtgren returned to his strengths for "The Arrival". With their 9th studio album to date Hypocrisy will satisfy that part of their fan base that preferred albums like "Abducted" or "The Final Chapter". The more modern "Catch 22"-structures have vanished for the typical Hypocrisy-harmonies, catchy singalong hits dominate ("Enter" or "Slave To The Parasites"). Yet they are being loosened up by some faster up-tempo tracks ("New World"). Also sound-wise, they went back a step towards the old school, which should be welcomed by the Death Metal traditionalists. Despite numerous releases in the past 12 years Hypocrisy are and remain a true force, don't refuse any experiments and still preserve their freshness and their brilliance. Very well done also is the nasty re-recording of the The Fourth Dimension-killer "The Abyss". (Patrick Schmidt - 04/01)
