12.I'll Show No Fear
by Benedikt Niederschmid (13.04.2007) It's hardly been a year since Caliban released their last album, "The undying darkness". Hardly anyone would already have expected a new album. Especially because "The awakening" is a more than worthy successor. But the German Metalcore-pioneers manage to both stick to their roots and avoid musical stagnation. The new material sounds more complex and more technical. Especially in the Moshcore-parts, the band couldn't resist their liking for rhythmical intricateness so that you suddenly have Meshuggah and Fear Factory in the list of references. At the same time, they are really edgy and heavy. For the first time, they incorporate Blastbeats, too, and the portion of clean vocals was slightly reduced. The perfect sound was provided by guitarist Marc Görtz and none less than Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage. This is a good one!
