In its latest release, October Tide has reduced the doom element and thrown the listener into the colder embrace of a melodic death metal storm. This trend continues consistently on 'The Cancer Pledge' and aligns with the direction taken by guitarist Fredrik Norrman (formerly of Katatonia, Trees Of Eternity, Thenighttimeproject), who seeks to rejuvenate October Tide with a touch of the past. 'It is a direct continuation of the previous album,' says Norrman. 'Less doom and more death metal, but still melodic and with more layers. I have sought inspiration in records that I listened to in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up. But it still sounds like October Tide.' The sound of October Tide is not only intertwined with doom-laden melodic death metal, but is also accompanied by emotionally captivating guitar work that is known to delve into melancholic and introspective tones. Although the band's form has changed over the years,
