12.Implements Of Destruction
by Patrick Schmidt (04/03) On their third album, the Americans, Chimaira seem to have a lot of anger in their bellies and be completely pissed off. Maybe the tour with Slayer was very branding, because "The impossibilty of reason" is guaranteed the heaviest album in the band's history, and partly rocks in best Thrash manner. Especially the ultra-brutal opener, "Cleansation" and the destructive "Power trip" with their fat riff-waltz and thundering double-bass-drumming burst everthing that comes in their way. In between you get such typical NuMetal killers in the like of "Down again", performed with competent skills and bearing some nice, catchy hooks. Consequently, Chimaira 2003 sound like a mixture of Slayer, Machine Head and Fear Factory with some Linkin Bizkit-elements, yet the Thrash-portion fortunately takes over the dominant role. And consequently, true metallers should have no problems with "The impossibility of reason". A fat, surprising album that definitely lift up from the mass of Nu Metall releases. Cool!
