11.If I Was You (Single Version)
by Matthias Mineur (18.01.2007) Of course, you can always expect something special from Saxon. If you have such a smart guy like Biff Byford in your rows, you neither have to play standard themes nor Metal clichés. Also on the new album, "The inner Sanctum", Byford stands in the epicentre of a heavy Metal shaking, sometimes heavy metallic like iron, sometimes rather in Rock sound format with a pleasing factor. Songs like "Let me feel your power", "I've got to rock (to stay alive)", "Empire rising" and "Need for speed" carry their names for a good reason. On "The inner sanctum", Saxon manage the split between tradition and modern times, ergo something between "Solid ball of rock" and "Lionheart". Responsible for this was also the producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, who gathered the typical ingredients of the Saxon sound and put them into a modern sound. A truly convincing album featuring a true classic for eternity: the first single, "If I was you".
