11.The New Black
by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (11.07.2006) In Germany, the only chance to be convinced by the fact that only an antiproduct from Canada is “Far Beyond Metal” was by their late night shows on the mega rock festivals, Rock Am Ring” and Rock Im Park”. Next chance for this cult-falsetto head-voice parody now is this new studio album, “The new black“. Chance to be healed from true metal by the crazy professor, Devin Townsend. Ska sucks! And so do his own fans: in “You suck“, Townsend is the perfect gentleman... There are several of such hate-references, still, medication and the deprivation of hallucinating drugs caused wonders: compared to the massive piece of anger that was the preceding album, this new blackness is almost as relaxed as his solo excursions. Beside the usual hissing, screaming, shouting, growling and completely going mad, he sings comparatively often, too (“Almost again“). There ain't no sicker and at the same time technically more competent way to kick ass.
