by Markus Wosgien (13.07.2006) Hardly any other act has stamped the death metal genre as much as Deicide, a band that has always been in the crossfire of the criticism. "The stench of redemptionβ€œ is another uncompromising statement against the church and reflects Glen Benton's antichrist attitude. Tracks like "Death to Jesusβ€œ or "Homage for Satanβ€œ are clear statements, and also the 2006-sound of Deicide speaks a clear tongue. Yet, with some newies after the Hoffmann brothers left the band last years. The heaviness didn't suffer in that, though - on the contrary. The two new guitar players, Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (ex-Iced Earth and Death) immensely enrich the Americans' sound. Some filigree and very melodic riffs and solos are smuggling into the extremely heavy sound adding a lot of class and technical brilliance to the nine tracks of this unholy disc. The fresh winds are apparent in all corners making "The stench of redemptionβ€œ an absolute highlight in the death metal circus.
