by Andreas Reissnauer (20.01.2006) Over the years, Caliban have matured to one of the three most important German metal core bands. At first still boisterous and from time to time also clumsy, they convinced the critics with “Shadow hearts“ and at the latest with their last highlight, “The opposite from within“. The new album shows that Caliban have long come to where they wanted to be. “The undying darkness“ is the logical successor of “The opposite from within“ and convinces with the same trademarks. Heavy drums and bass guitar, staccato riffs changing with melodic leads and breaks at the right spots. At the same time, Caliban again were so smart to include melodic middle sections in every song. Furthermore, the aggressive screams of Andy Dörner are skilfully opposed by guitarist Denis Schmidt with his clear vocals. These contrasts work perfectly on the new album and results in the dynamics of the songs. Absolutely recommendable.
