11.(Exit) The Few
by Jan Sprave (10.04.2008) After the departure of the worm-consuming frontman, Lord Worm and the bulky, sometimes targetlessly destructive predecessor, "Once was not", the Canadian cult-blasters present themselves with two new members in the line-up, clearly tapered and bursting with fresh ideas and a variety that so far had probably only been a dream of bandleader and drummer, Flo Mounier. With the newcomers, Matt McGachy (vocals) and Maggie Durand (keyboards, samples), Cryptopsy anno 2008 sound more pioneering than ever. Combined with the known Cryptopsy-trademarks, like hyper-fast Blastbeats, technical riffs, brutal growl and scream attacks – here, the new man does a perfect job – the sometimes clear (!!!) vocals, ultra gloomy keyboard-parts and samples as well as massive, almost Illdisposed-like groove riffs provide plenty of (positively) surprising moments. Short: "The unspoken king" is a true feast for all fans of energy-bursting battering and blows the listener away with countless musical fighting techniques instead of just kicking him right into the face.
