by Marcel Anders (14.07.2008) The band’s name, the album title and the cover artwork are deceiving: this is no Scandinavian monster metal, no high speed attack and no satanic supper... Nightmare are five Japanese who have been on the market for eight years - they have released five albums and numerous anime soundtracks already and could be regarded as an epitome of the visual kei genre: they have the according attributes (gothic design clothes with elaborate hairdos) and also fit into the pattern musically. The 13 songs offer melodramatic vocals with staccato riffs, bombastic organ sounds and rumbling double bass drums, and vary between Nü Metal, gothic pathos, speed metal, punk and rockabilly. And they have a penchant for kitschy ballads like "Crevasse", "Alumina" or "Lulu" which turn into real stadium rock songs. Store Nightmare between X-Japan and L´Arc En Ciel - but they really have their best moments when they dabble in Speed and Thrash.
