10.Der stille Grund
by Sonja Angerer (28.12.2006) When I think of a Faun, I imagine a happy, easy, carefree nature on a sun flooded summer meadow - and so far, the music of the Munich based Pagan Folkers corresponded to this imagination. This time, however, the five musicians have opened their night side, already the album title "Totem" clearly states that. Like drawn from tempting siren songs, "Rad" leads us into the dark. "Zwei Falken" in contrast to that appears almost airy despite its electronic noises. Instrumented more traditionally are "Unicorne" and "Tinta". "Gaia" with its India inspired sounds seems to come from the darkest inner of the earth, yet really mystic is the slow "Zeit nach dem Sturm", an impressive epic on the swell to the dawn. With the A-capella song, "Der stille Grund", the traveller returns from the shadows and everything seems new again. "Totem" is not only the darkest Faun album, it is also the most variable and richest one.
