The release of "Horror Show" dates back some days now and since Iced Earth will need some more time until their next album will be released, it seems suitable to keep the fans close. Unreleased material seems to be used up, the perfect and all-including live document has been released with "Alive In Athens", too, so that - as the title indicates - an album with cover versions is close at hand. Jon Schaffer and his band exclusively chose songs from the 70s and 80s: two songs each of Kiss ("Creatures Of The Night", "God Of Thunder"), AC/DC ("Highway To Hell", "It's A Long Way To The Top"), Blue Oyster Cult ("Burnin' For You", "Cities On Flame") and Iron Maiden ("The Number Of The Beast", "Hallowed Be Thy Name"). The rest of the 11 songs is made up by Judas Priest ("Screaming For Vengeance"), Alice Cooper ("Dead Babies") and Black Sabbath ("Black Sabbath"). One could argue about this choice, but definitely not about the well-done performance. Well-done because Iced Earth manage to transform the compositions into their own sound. That the technical abilities of the quintet cannot always live up to that of the originals is a matter of fact - but that doesn't reduce the entertainment factor of "Tribute To The Gods".
