9.131Amon Amarth
A powerful riff-thunderstorm opens the fourth album of the Swedish Death Metal icons, Amon Amarth, definitely their masterpiece to date. Already the three predecessors were very good, but also interchangeable. On the new monument, their enormous class is proven impressively .Singer Johan Hegg roars with his deep voice that grabs you from the first second on. The album was written under enormous pressures but still convinces by its unexpectedly straight way and its 9 melodic Death Metal killers that leave no desires opened. One murder riffs haunts the other, has groove and power. Beside the current albums of the fellow countrymen of In Flames and Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth deliver the next highlight in terms of melodic Death Metal. The change of studios (to the Berno Studio; The Haunted etc.) has done them good and brought fresh air into the flags of the Vikings. A definite must for all who want to experience a metallic brain surgery. (Markus Wosgien - 09/02)
