by Lothar Landt (10.04.2007) At the lastest with the opening riff for "Iron curtain", Gaia Epicus prove that Norway has more than Black Metal in store. The quartet around singer and guitarist, Thomas C. Hansen has devoted to traditional sounds that should be pleasing every NWOBHM-fan - even if Gaia Epicus do not come from England. "The sign" is a great up-tempo banger with a melodic side to it reflecting in the guitars and the very good vocals. "Awaken the monster" is a very catchy hitter with staccato rhythms before the vast up-tempo and solo part begins. In the following "Rise of the empire", Gaia Epicus pay tribute to Helloween and speed it up. "Victory" is already the third album of the band and it is extraordinarily variable. This is the result of the fantastic guitars, like in "Fortress of solitude". So, with its good song writing, "Victory" leaves a strong impression that easily outlives the only weakness of the album, the thin drum sound.
