by M. Heavier (24.01.2006) After her last studio album, “Fight” (2002) evoked some conflicting reactions, Doro rather remembers her roots again for her new album. For example, with “Haunted heart“ you get the first double bass track in years while the midtempo-hymn, “Strangers yesterday“ radiates a pure 80s-feeling. In a similar vein are the rockers, “Spell of thunder“, “Majesty“ (hit!) and “Above the ashes“, while “Heaven I see“ and “Shine one“ (devoted to the died AFM label chief, Andy Allendörfer) should appeal to the fans of ballad music. Still, the lady from Duesseldorf isn't exclusively relying on the retro thing: “Creep into my brain“ has a modern-gloomy taste to it and convinces with a catchy melody, while the title track - for which she also shot a video clip - surprises with an atmosphere full of tension as well as some restrained instrumentation. At the end of the day there is something for every Doro fan.
