12.I am Dracula (Video) (Data Track)
by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (08.04.2008) The Italian horror movie has some tasty skeletons in the closet: only for superficial watchers, the strong sexualised force is a contradiction to the highly catholic nationality. No wonder that with Death SS, this genre was early (1977) taken up by a Metal band with cabaret like gestures. In this tradition also stands Stigma, whose lyrics and artwork pleasurably plays with the stereotypes of Dracula, werewolves and Gothic Novel-clichees. Musically, however, there is no affinity to Gothic or Industrial observable – like in Steve Sylvester’s band. Also Vampire-Black Metal or King Diamond’s theatrical, classic sound was no inspiration. Often hectic, Melodic Death Metal with a Swedish guitar note (Dimension Zero,...) is the basis for some moderate keyboard effects and modern rhythms. Fortunately, the short intros do not get out of control in Mortician-way and steal the attention for the songs.
