16.Zero Sum
by Sonja Angerer (10.04.2007) With "Year zero", Mr. American Industrial not only created a concept album but also a multi-dimensional world with these 16 songs being their bench marks. They deal with a world in the near future, a shattered vision of the year zero. Backed up by the sounds of an election campaign event, "Hyperpower" draws you right into the chaotic kaleidoscope, the following "The beginning of the end" seduces you with the drum sounds of the 70s-classic, "My sharona". "Capital G" is a true Industrial hit, the melodic, catchy middle part makes this song a true hit candidate. "The good soldier" with its desperate self-assurance, "I am trying to believe" is one of the central songs, decorated by some Soul-disco sounds and subliminal horror factor. Most intense, however, is "The greater God", a superficially harmless instrumental which with every second develops more of the tormenting atmosphere of the disaster - this is how the last day before the beginning of the end has to feel like.
