Hot pants in different variations
In 1970, they fitted perfectly into the era of the sexual revolution. And who had invented them? A teacher at an Italian primary schools. That same year, the hot pants craze spilled over into Britain, France and Germany. The short pants were so successful because they were at least as sexy as miniskirts, but allowed much more freedom. In hot pants you could show a lot of leg, but also run, jump and ride a bike without any worries. You could move freely in them without revealing too much.
When the trousers became popular in the USA, however, it was winter there. Because this garment was naturally too cold in winter, a whole new fashion emerged there. The trousers were now worn together with woollen tights in the brightest colours. They were often accompanied by knee-high boots and floor-length coats. Even stewardesses wore these trousers as part of their service dress. In the 80s and 90s, hot trousers made of denim fabric first disappeared completely from the street scene, followed by all other ultra-short trousers. They only reappeared at the turn of the millennium, where women in hotpants played a role especially in video clips of well-known rappers.
