When should you put up Christmas decorations?

While the first Christmas treats can usually be found in supermarkets as early as September and are bought briskly here by many, there are others who like to take a little longer with the decorations around the festival of love and celebrate Halloween extensively first.

But when is actually the ideal time for the annual Christmas decorations? In Germany, many households start getting Christmassy in November. A centuries-old superstition says that decorating before the Sunday of the dead could encourage the death of a close person or relative. At least that's what the tale says.

In many households, the decorations are then taken down again either on 6 January or 2 February. So there is plenty of time to examine all the accessories extensively within your own four walls.
