I got two tickets to Iron Maiden baby, come with my Friday don’t say maybe…
Sure, Iron Maiden have sold over 100 million records but the true sign that you’ve ‘made it’ is surely being referenced in a song like "Teenage Dirtbag".
Iron Maiden, without a word of hyperbole, are one of the biggest bands the world has ever seen. Formed in Leyton, London back in 1975, their distinct blend of heavy metal, hard riffs and stadium filling vocals earned them fans all over the globe and sales exceeding 100 million copies.
Iron Maiden were born out of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal in the late 70s but have since gone on to help redefine just what heavy metal is. Using punk elements plus more progressive, experimental elements across iconic albums like "Powerslave", "The Number of the Beast" and "Somewhere in Time", Iron Maiden have always kept their sound fresh, yet uniquely them
As well as keeping a sound that’s distinguished, another regular feature throughout Iron Maiden’s career is their mascot, the undead figure of Eddie. 'Eddie The Head', for his full, formal title. Eddie first appeared on the single "Running Free" in 1980 and has had his zombie-liked face on every single one of Iron Maiden’s albums in some form or another ever since. You’ll recognise his mug across our range of Iron Maiden gifts and merch, printed on t-shirts, shot glasses and more.
Originally designed by artist Derek Riggs, Eddie has been a skeletal punk, Satan’s puppet master, a Red Coat during the Charge of The Light Brigade, an Egyptian Pharaoh and a futuristic cyborg. Eddie has almost got more range than the evolving musicians in Iron Maiden.
Songs like "The Trooper", "Speed of Light", "Run to the Hills" and "Aces High" are well-known by fans all over the world, but what might be less known is just where the name Iron Maiden comes from. In true metal style, the origins aren’t the stuff of romance or whimsy. The iron maiden was, in fact, a Medieval torture device.
Because, duh, heavy metal. In essence, the device was like a standing sarcophagus with spikes lining the inner walls and the door, so when the victim was placed inside and the door closed, numerous spikes would pierce the flesh and vital organs. The spikes were just short enough to not cause instant death, instead the victim would bleed to death over what could be many hours.
In what might be the world’s worst non-sequitur, let’s talk about Iron Maiden merch now. No, we do not sell iron maiden devices, they'd be too heavy to ship. Instead, we pay homage to heavy metal legends with an array of Iron Maiden clothing – some of which is exclusive to EMP. We’ve got Iron Maiden t-shirt designs, Iron Maiden hoodies and jumpers that you simply cannot get anywhere else. Other clothing includes swim shorts, boots and underwear. Whether you’re after a signature look that shows off your Maiden mania or just looking to add some alternative rock essentials to your wardrobe, we’ve got you covered.
