Slayer
Sorry, we couldn't find any matches for your search
Slayer is one of the most extreme Thrash Metal bands on the scene and have inspired generations of fans not only with an unmistakably brutal sound, but also with relentless lyrics. If you're looking for fast guitar solos, hard riffs and musical variety, Slayer is the right place for you. And Slayer merch at EMP is a great place to begin. But where did it all start?
Slayer were founded by lead guitarist Kerry King and the late Jeff Hanneman in Huntington Park in 1981. Singer Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo joined the duet a short time later completing the 4 person line-up. Slayer originally started out as Judas Priest, an Iron Maiden cover band, but Kerry King and Co quickly found their own style and caused a bit of sensation mainly through their use of satanic symbols.
As die-hard Slayer fans, of course, you probably know your way around the bands' history very well, but did you know that Kerry King pursues an animal hobby? and what does 'Repentless' actually mean? No? We thought so, which is why we've put together the most exciting fun facts for new and old fans of these Californian Thrash Metal legends.
A heart for animals
Slayer's lead guitarist Kerry King is a big animal fanatic; especially snakes. In his reptile house the rocker can really relax and enjoys spending time with his many animals. His passion for reptiles has even turned into a small sideline: on his reptile farm 'Psychotic Exotics', Kerry King breeds and sells various types of snakes, from carpet pythons to Madagascar boas. Employees take care of his reptile house when he is on tour with Slayer.
Slayer goes Hollywood
The guys from Slayer never really stood in front of the camera, but they have worked on various Hollywood soundtracks. For the successful film adaptation of the comic 'Spawn' (1997), Slayer wrote the title 'No Remorse (I Wanna Die )'. Spiderman is not safe from Slayer either. In the 2002 Sum41 single 'What We're All About' from the official Spiderman soundtrack, the guitar solo is played by none other than Kerry King. Slayer not only rock on stage, but also inspire cinema fans with their unmistakably brutal sound.
Repentless?
You've gone through all of the English dictionaries but just can't figure out what 'Repentless' means? Don't worry, the word doesn't even exist in the English language. In an interview, Kerry King revealed that he just made up the word himself. According to Slayer, 'Repentless' means not regretting any decisions and not thinking too much about the past. 'Repentless' is meant to express that you should never wish to have done something differently. So do it like Slayer: be 'repentless' and always look ahead positively!
Slayer in numbers
The success of Slayer cannot be dismissed out of hand. Slayer are part of the 'Big Four' of Thrash Metal for a reason: from 1991 to 2013 the band released 12 studio albums. But that's not all, during the 30 years of the band's history, fans were also able to enjoy 3 live albums and two exclusive box sets. Incidentally, some of the most acclaimed albums in Slayer's history include 'Reign in Blood', 'Seasons in the Abyss' and 'South of Heaven'. The band's success is also reflected in the sales figures and by 2013 they had already sold over 20 million albums worldwide.
