9.Dancers To A Discordant System
by Jürgen Tschamler (20.01.2008) A full two years have passed since the last brainkiller of Sweden's Meshuggah. "Catch thirty three" has brought about an enormous boost of popularity for the freaky Scandinavians. As we have always known that Meshuggah is no normal band, also "Obzen" maltreats our ear drums till they burst. "Obzen" surprises by the fact that Meshuggah has devoted more to the brutal double-bass attacks, again, and increased the overall speed, too. The hectic, weird performance with the mix of growls, complex riff structures and massive use of tempo changes make Meshuggah unique. A song, like "Bleed" clearly shows the musical insanity that surrounds the band. Incredible staccato attacks dominate the song. "Pravus" is a great mix of Techno Thrash and Death Metal that hardly any other band would manage to play this way. If genius and madness are crashing into each other, the result can only be something like "Obzen".
