by Markus Eck (13.04.2010) Melancholic. Veeerrrry melancholic indeed, even elegic, yet full of latent hope. The new album by singer Ville Laihiala and his boys offers beautifully intricate, authentic Dark Rock. The blokes from Oulu use the whole array of appropriate and perfect stylistic devices such as organ sounds by a keyboard typical of the Rock scene in the 70s. You can't categorise the music on "Of rust and bones" clearly - it is too lively, organic and full of ideas. On the one hand, the band is clearly focussed on simplicity and and down-to-earth compositions, on the other hand, they add modern elements like electronically altered vocals, for example. There's also the occasional Blues or Jazz part, and Poisonblack convince with their knack for exciting song structures. Enjoy this audio trip!
