by Oliver Kube (21.07.2008) Eight years after the mediocre "New tattoo" and after almost innumerable live- or hit-compilations, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars plus prodigal son Tommy Lee finally release a new studio album. And lo and behold: "Saints of Los Angeles" simply is the coolest, smartest, dirtiest and most authentic Mötley Crüe output since almost twenty years! The songwriting is influenced by their great autobiography "The dirt", and the legendary Glam Metal icons deliver - they haven’t been that brilliant since "Dr. Feelgood" (1989). Highlights on the CD which gives you 44 minutes of the Crüe: the rough & rocking opener "Face down in the dirt", the driving title track, the irresistibly groovy "What’s it gonna take" and the almost-ballad "The animal in me", sang surprisingly powerful by Vince Neil (who seemed to be just old and exhausted within the last few years). The sound is awesome and sonorous - combining the best of their classical releases with top-notch modern studio possibilities. The Crüe is back!
