In terms of music, "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is the so far most complex and diversified album by Iron Maiden. The experimental process which started with "Somewhere In Time" and included above all the use of synthesizers, was carried on with "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son". An acoustic solo like the one at the end of "The Prophecy" had never existed before in this form. The complex song-writing increasingly focuses on composition teams: Whereas song-writing was so far especially carried out by their main songwriter Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith were now involved more than ever. Dave Murray contributed to the writing of one song.
"Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" clearly stands out from all previous Maiden albums: One looks in vain for fast rock songs like "The Trooper" or "Two Minutes To Midnight", the album features longer, more diversified pieces instead of.
