by Andreas Reissnauer (July 2004) With the change from Lifeforce to Roadrunner, Caliban set themselves under enormous pressure. Yet, the Western Germans justify the label's confidence with a true quantum leap. "Shadow hearts" was already a quite good album but "The opposite from within" beats it easily! The new album is much more variable, and besides the usual fast forward riffs convinces with some really well done melodic passages. Also the songwriting is much more compact and accessible. Everything is more straight to the point, simpler without being nonessential and heavier. The production of Anders Fridén and the mix of Andy Sneap provide you with stormy hairs, there ain't not much that is heavier. Everybody who thought that Caliban have been overestimated will change his mind. With "The opposite from within" they have definitely arrived at the top of the Metalcore-scene.
