Excellent Service

A nice, timeless album which easily can be compared with the big ones of the genre. A mixture from Punk, New Wave, Pop and Ska which reminds of the best times of the Buzzcocks, Blondie, Vice Squad and Specials.

by Matthias Mader (08.04.2008) The British Pop Punks, Deadline return with a new line-up (50% of the current members have a French passport) and enchant us with unfortunately only four new studio songs. But they are added by 13 ultra-fast live recordings (copies on CD without any overdubs). The hit-compatible "Too late tomorrow" or "We’re not American" and "Smell the coffee" as well as the fast title track, "We’re taking over" are absolutely great – an easy mixture of Punk, New Wave, Pop and Ska. The warm, melodic voice of singer Liz Rose can absolutely convince and settles somewhere between Beki Bondage and Debbie Harry. The musical influences of Deadline go clearly back to the late 70s: you can find elements of the Buzzcocks, Blondie, Vice Squad and even Specials. A great, really timeless album that doesn’t have to hide for any comparisons with the big names of the scene. As a further bonus you get tow fine video-clips for "Take no chances" and "Last night".
