Living style

There are many rumours about the Gothic style of living. It is often assumed that members of the scene paint their walls black, sleep in coffins and live among gravestones, cobwebs and skulls, but these are mostly exaggerations. Gothic home accessories are common, but most landlords would probably give the goths the bird if they started painting the door frames and the tiles black. Besides, black walls not only make the flat nice and dark, but also quite small. Black is oppressive and is also used as a wall colour by most goths at best as an accent - often in the form of black ornamental non-woven wallpaper.

In essence, the Goth's style of living is not very different from the "mainstream". Sure, the accessories are a bit gloomier and often consist of black ornate furniture, black flower pots, old candlesticks and old-looking cupboard walls, but goths are ultimately furnished like everyone else. Coffins are not suitable for a restful night's sleep, so they are not used as gothic bedding. Goths like to choose their furniture with an old-fashioned touch, no question. But most things can also be found in other households. However, as a place where one can express oneself and one's personality undisturbed, one's own four walls are often and gladly decorated to create a pleasant Gothic ambience.
