Wicca

The old nature religions are interesting for Goths for many reasons. They tell stories of earlier times, have a mysterious spirituality due to their closeness to nature and to spirits and the deceased, and satisfy the longing for something higher without a church institution. Wicca, the religion of witches, is particularly popular in the scene. It stands for a connection between nature, man and culture. Unlike many other religions, which are only regarded with interest, Wicca is taken seriously in the black scene and integrated into everyday life. The feminist approach certainly plays a role here. There is a goddess and the witch hunts of the past are transferred to the situation of women today. People are committed to women's rights.

The Wiccan religion is oriented towards the lunar cycle. The four festivals of the sun's position are particularly important: Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice, Equinox in spring and in autumn. The full moon also has a special meaning. Many terms and symbols of the Wiccan religion are also known from films and stories. The "Book of Shadows", for example, which is known from the witch series "Charmed", contains instructions for magical rituals.

Herbs play a role, as do full moon rituals, white and black magic, ritual fires, magic circles and much more. Some goths practice Wicca seriously, others just find the subject fascinating.
