Recently, October Tide has moved away from their traditional doom sound and immersed the listener in a colder, melodic death metal storm. This change in direction has been led by guitarist Fredrik Norrman (formerly of Katatonia, Trees Of Eternity, and Thenighttimeproject), who aims to bring back elements of the band's past. Norrman explains, 'The Cancer Pledge' is a direct continuation of our previous album, featuring less doom and more death metal, while still maintaining our melodic and layered sound. I found inspiration in the records I listened to growing up in the 80s and 90s, but it still sounds like October Tide.' Despite evolving over the years, starting as a duo of musicians from Katatonia, Fredrik Norrman and Jonas Renske, in 1994, October Tide has maintained and developed their unique style, characterized by emotionally captivating guitar work that delves into melancholic and introspective tones.
