Avengers
Sorry, we couldn't find any matches for your search
In the comic book world, Marvel and DC stand head to head. Not just the comic giants, but also their fans: you’re either on the side of Marvel or DC. In the 1960s, Marvel decided not just to sit back and watch DC’s ‘Justice League of America’, but to create its very own superhero group. In 1963, Marvel stepped things up a gear with ‘The Avengers’. The troupe originally consisted of Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp, Ant-Man and Thor. Captain American also soon joined the group. This coming-together of very different heroes only happens when something seriously bad is brewing, which one Avenger alone could not stop. At this point, we need the Avengers! And you too might need some Avengers fan merchandise.
Important comic-book characters
The members of the Avengers gang couldn’t be any more different from each other. This is what often leads to rivalries or hilarious situations. The group often adds a new member or switches one up. At one time, Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Wolverine and Black Widow were also among its members. Among the founding members is Iron Man: otherwise known as the multibillionaire Anthony Edward. He is the CEO of a technology company, and is so badly injured during while inspecting an invention that only an emergency operation can save his life. A splinter of metal is embedded in his chest, just in front of his heart, which could kill him at any moment. Edward receives an armoured exoskeleton which stabilizes his body and prevents the splinter from being dislodged. This armour also gives him super strength and battle capabilities, allowing him to destroy a variety of opponents.
At Iron Man’s side is the Hulk. This green monster is actually nuclear physicist Dr. Bruce Banner. He was subjected to a massive amount of gamma radiation by a radioactive bomb. Since then, even the slightest hint of anger turns him into a raging, green monster with super strength. The Wasp is yet another member of the Avengers. Janet Van Dyne becomes the superheroine Wasp thanks to the help of her husband Ant-Man and the use of bio-chemical implants and Pym particles. Her partner is Dr. Henry Pym, also known as Ant-Man. The biophysicist discovered a substance that he can use to make himself bigger or smaller. In this smaller form, he calls himself Ant-Man and helps the Avengers to fight against nefarious baddies.
The troupe is also supported by Captain America. In his everyday life, the Captain is called Steve Rogers and is a rather feeble chap. He wants to support his country by joining the army, but he’s too weak to do so. Not until he undergoes an experiment does Rogers become the muscular and powerful Captain America. With his Vibranium shield, he can defend against any attack. The final founding member of the Avengers is the thunder God Thor. With his hammer Mjolnir, the Nordic God has incredible powers, which he uses to save the other members’ lives on occasion.
